From a series of two: day and night. Von Amling made these engravings after the famous gobelin tapestries in München, which were designed by Peter de Wit for Kurfürst Maximilian I, and which were woven by the Dutch Hans van d. Biest and other Dutchmen in the Hautelisse Manufaktur in München between 1604 – 1615.
Made by ‘Joseph Wagner’ after ‘Anton Domenico Gabbiani’. Joseph Wagner (1706-1780) was a highly regarded eighteenth century engraver and draughtsman. He was born at Thalendorf, on Lake Constance, in 1706. He studied painting at Venice under Jacopo Amigoni. Anton Domenico Gabbiani (1652-1726).
Condition: Good, given age. Light creasing and soiling. A few small pinholes at top from binding in wrapper. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
