‘Dies …’

etching / engraving on hand laid (vergé) paper.
Sheet size: 17,4 x 27,7 cm. (6,9 x 10,9 inch). Image size: 16 x 26 cm. (6,3 x 10,2 inch).

From a series of two: day and night. Von Amling made these engravings after the famous gobelin tapestries in München, which were designed by Peter de Wit for Kurfürst Maximilian I, and which were woven by the Dutch Hans van d. Biest and other Dutchmen in the Hautelisse Manufaktur in München between 1604 – 1615. Ref: Nagler XXIV, 481.

Made by ‘Carl Gustav von Amling’ after ‘Petrus Candido’. Carl Gustav von Amling (1650-1703) was a German printmaker from Nürnberg. He studied in München under J.M. Wenig and in Paris under F. de Poilly. Peter de Wit / Candido (Flemish; c.1548-1628).

Condition: Good, given age. Some small stains in margins. Light creasing and soiling. Small tears at top left and right paper edges, not effecting image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
