A soldier on guard, full-length, to the right, holding a musket (a certain type of firearm) with his left hand near the fork of the furket (musket fork) on which the barrel rests (no. 39), ca. 1600. In his left hand, in addition to the furket, also has a burning fuse. He grabs this fuse with his right hand. Plate 39 in the instructions for handling the musket: Shorte instruction for the figures, so much concerneth the right use of muskett.
