Subject: Antique print, titled: ‘Galatea and Polyphemus’, The nereid Galatea is washing her hair in a dolphin-drawn chariot, surrounded by tritons. To the left the cyclops Polyphemus looks on.
Condition: Good, given age. Stains in the margins and image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Description: From David Teniers’ 246-plate series ‘Theatrum Pictorium’, published 1660-1755. The Antwerp artist and court painter David Teniers II (1610–1690) published the Theatrum Pictorium, the first illustrated printed catalogue of a major paintings collection. This opulent book contained etchings that reproduced 243 paintings in the collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm, the governor of the Southern Netherlands.

Artists and Engravers: Made by Q. Boel after D. Fetti. Domenico Fetti (1589-1623) was an Italian draughtsman and painter. He was influenced by Caravaggio and Elsheimer. He became court painter to Ferdinando Gonzaga in Mantua in 1613. He died in Venice, where he lived from 1621. Quirin Boel (1620-1668) was a Belgian engraver and etcher. He was the son of Jan Boel, and a contemporary of David Teniers. He made engravings after numerous famous painters, such as Fetti, Michelangelo, Titian, Schiavone, etc.
