Description: Separately published master print. Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.

Artists and Engravers: Made by W. Baillie after A. Ostade. William Baillie (known as ‘Captain’, 1723-1810) was an Irish printmaker known for his works in the style of (or direct copies of) Rembrandt. He is seen as amateur artist as he was an officer in the British Army until 1761 and was also Commissioner of Stamps.
