BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Deuxieme Suite de Chevaux.

Biography engraver: Charles Francois Gabriel Levachez (fl. 1789-1828), French engraver and occasional publisher. Son of Nicolas Francois Levachez. Known for lithographs and mezzotints.

Biography artist: Carle Vernet (1758-1836) and his son Horace Vernet (1789-1863) were leading French painters and lithographers, known for military scenes, horses, and genre subjects. Horace became known for his vivid realism and speed of execution, and held major commissions from French royalty.
