BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Quatrieme Suite de Chevaux.
Biography engraver: Antoine Carree (fl. 1780-1790), French printmaker and pupil of Janinet, active in Paris. Known for color aquatints and equestrian lithographs.
Biography artist: Carle Vernet (1758-1836) and his son Horace Vernet (1789-1863) were leading French painters and lithographers, known for military scenes, horses, and genre subjects. Horace became known for his vivid realism and speed of execution, and held major commissions from French royalty.
