Description
Plate : ‘De Gewaande Heidin – La Feinte Bohemienne’. A woman has put her hand in an old woman’s hand. Behind a tree on the right a man is spying on the two women. In the background an entrance to a garden. Below the image a poem in Dutch and French dedicated to Cornelis Ploos van Amstel, an 18th-century Dutch wood merchant, painter and art collector.

Medium: engraving / etching with hand colouring on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 32.5 x 46 cm (12.8 x 18.11 inch). Image size: 22 x 29 cm. (8.66 x 11.42 inch).
Condition: good, given age. A few small spots, mainly in the margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Simon Fokke (Amsterdam, 1712 – 1784) was a Dutch engraver, etcher and designer. He was a student of Jan Caspar Philips, and worked mainly in book illustration.
Biography artist: Jacobus Buys (19 November 1724 – 7 April 1801) was a Dutch painter and engraver.
