BACKGROUND INFORMATION

From: ‘Tafereelen’ with depictions from the paintings in the Binnenhof in The Hague, published in 1737.

Reference: Rijksmuseum object RP-P-1907-4149.

Biography engraver: Pieter Tanje (1706-1761), Dutch engraver, well-known for his classical interpretations and historical scenes.

Biography artist: Gerard de Lairesse (1640-1711) was a talented Dutch Golden Age engraver, painter and art theorist. Born at Liege, 1660 to Berlin, 1665 to Amsterdam. moved to The Hague around 1684. Nicolaas Verkolje (1673-1746), Dutch draftsman and engraver.
