BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published by Johann Daniel Herz I (Augsburg, 1693-1754).

Provenance: Unidentified collector stam at bottom margin.

Biography engraver: Martin Gottfried Crophius (1717-1765) was a German copper engraver and publisher based in Augsburg. Known for his fine-line etchings of classical subjects.

Biography artist: Charles Le Brun (1619-1690) was the principal painter to Louis XIV and director of the Gobelins Manufactory. He shaped the French Baroque style.
