Title: ‘Tabula Geographica partis septentrionalis Maris Pacifici cum adiacentibus regionabus superrime tam a Russis Orientem … Acad: Reg: scient. et litter: eleg: Borusi discripta.’ An original superbly detailed map of the Northern Pacific Ocean including the Northwest Passage of the Pacific Ocean. It shows North America, the northern Pacific and East and Central Asia. The map shows the routes of Russian voyages of discovery, de Frondat’s Voyage and Spanish trans-Pacific galleons. The fictitious ‘Mer ou Baye de l’Ouest’ of De Fonte also features prominently. The central cartouche is topped with a Prussian eagle, while the left and right top have engravings of Arctic and Louisiana natives. This rare original map originates from Leonhard Euler’s ‘Atlas Geographicus omnes orbis terrarum’ (Berlin, Michaelis: 1753).Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Sauerbrey. Nikolaus Friedrich Sauerbrey (?-1770) was an engraver for the Royal Academy of Berlin. Leonhard Euler (1707-1783) was a pioneering Swiss mathematician and physicist. He edited an atlas on the request of the St. Petersburg Academy.
Condition: Very good given age. Two vertical creases, flattened out. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Remains of colouring. Please study scan carefully.
