This print shows a map from Szechoslowakia, with the capital Prague and many other cities and villages. Collection stamps and signature from previous owner the famous VG Radionov (Radionoff). Dated on reverse 1940.

Made by an anonymous engraver after Johann Criginger.

Medium: Etching / Engraving on handlaid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 51.2 x 38 cm (20.16 x 14.96 inch). Image size: 50.5 x 33.5 cm. (19.88 x 13.19 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Fold as published. Fold in upper middle. Extra paper strip in lower margin. Paper loss in upper left corner. Black stain in left. Tears restored. Brownish in lower margin and plate. Signature Radionoff. Collection stamps. Smudges in margin. . General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This attractive print was published by Abraham Ortelius in “Theatrum Orbis Terrarum ( Atlas of the whole world), Antwerp, 1598. This edition is between 1570-1612, with text in latin. Abraham Ortelius (also Ortels, Orthellius, Wortels; 4 or 14 April 1527 ? 28 June 1598) was a Brabantian cartographer, geographer, and cosmographer, conventionally recognized as the creator of the first modern atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theatre of the World). Along with Gemma Frisius and Gerardus Mercator, Ortelius is generally considered one of the founders of the Netherlandish school of cartography and geography.
