Antique print, titled: ”Ducatus Limburg.” – Attractive map of the Duchy of Limburg in the Netherlands/Belgium. With two cartouches, one featuring a coat of arms, the other featuring two men by a globe. Cities included are Maastricht, Sittard, Valkenburg, Verviers, Aken / Aachen and Liege/Luik. Published in Amsterdam by Henricus Hondius ca. 1636.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Hendrik Hondius’ after an anonymous artist. Henricus Hondius II or Hendrik Hondius the Younger (1597-1651) was a Dutch engraver, cartographer and publisher. He was born in Amsterdam, the son of the famous cartographer Jodocus Hondius. After his father died in 1612 Henricus ran the business with his brother-in-law. In 1621 opened his own company in his hometown. The first time his name was mentioned in an atlas was in 1623 when he published the fifth edition of the Mercator-Hondius atlas. After 1628 Henricus partnered with the cartographer Jan Janssonius and together they continued the business.
Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Few stains in margin. Text on reverse. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
