BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Source: unknown, to be determined.
Biography engraver: Elise Marie Louise Chantal (1817-1895) was a French-Dutch lithographer and artist, part of the prominent Chantal family. Likely the daughter of Antoine Jean Louis Chantal (1789?1853), a French-Dutch painter and draughtsman active in Amsterdam, and she was likely the sister of Virginie Susanne Chantal (1814?1887), Johannes Franciscus Paul Chantal (1821?1863), and Jean Adelin Louis Chantal (1822?1899), all artists themselves. While less celebrated than her siblings and her father, she contributed to the family’s artistic legacy through her lithographic works, reflecting her technical skill and artistic finesse.
