Complete with all 11 plates including 8 mostly panoramic views of Leuven, Brussels, Antwerp, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Gent (2x), Brugge and Ieperen.

Jean-Baptiste (or Jan Baptist) Gramaye (1579-1635) was a Flemish historian from Antwerp. He studied Law in Leuven and became a professor there. Later he was appointed to court historian  by Archduke Albert. He wrote about Asia, Africa and the Low Countries.

Plates etched by Jacobus Harrewijn (1660-1727). Jacobus Harrewijn was an engraver who was mostly active in the Southern Netherlands. He married in 1682 in Amsterdam, but joined the Antwerp Guild in 1688. He remarried in 1689 in Deurne and is known to have worked in Brussels from 1695 to 1714. Some sources have him continue his work from 1727 to 1732 in The Hague, which would be inconsistent with his death date from other sources.

Condition: Interior clean. Contemporary calf leather binding with raised bands and gold lettering. Boards separated at bottom.
