BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Engraving attributed to Giorgio Ghisi, after Perino del Vaga (Pietro Buonaccorsi). Referenced in Bartsch B.XV.398.30-II and Boorsch, Lewis and Lewis (rejected attribution). Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Biography engraver: Giorgio Ghisi (ca. 1520-1582) was an Italian engraver from Mantua, known for his refined line work and complex compositions influenced by Raphael and Mannerism.

Biography artist: Perino del Vaga (1501-1547) was an Italian painter and designer, a pupil of Raphael, known for his decorative frescoes and mannerist compositions.
