BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Formerly attributed to Giorgio Ghisi, now considered anonymous. Based on a design by Perino del Vaga. Referenced in Bartsch B.XV 398.33 and Boorsch, Lewis and Lewis as R 4.ii (or iii). Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Biography engraver: Giorgio Ghisi (ca. 1520-1582) was an Italian engraver known for his complex Mannerist compositions. This print was formerly attributed to him but is now classified as anonymous.
Biography artist: Perino del Vaga (1501-1547) was an Italian painter and designer, a pupil of Raphael, known for his decorative frescoes and mythological compositions.
