Antique print, untitled. The Kiss of Judas, the betrayal of Christ. The arrest of Christ by the Romans, in which Jesus is indicated by the kiss that Judas gives him (Matthew 26:47-50 and Mark 14:43-45). Copy in reverse after the original by Jacques Callot. Possibly from his workshop.. Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after Callot. Jacques Callot (Nancy 1592-1635) was a famous baroque printmaker and draftsman from Lorraine / present day France. He was active in Italy employed by Cosimo II de Medici until 1621. He is an important figure in the development of the old master print and highly popular.
Condition: Good, given age. Ample margins. Left edge uneven from binding. Right margin soiled from handling. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
