Collection of Roman sculptures/statues from: “Signorum veterum icones” by Jan de Bisschop (Joh. Episcopius ), published in 1668. It is a collection of Roman statues / sculptures of Roman gods, emperors, mythological figures, fauns etc. The plates in this work are engraved after his own drawings or after the drawings of Doncker, De Geyn, Dondyns, Matham, Ferreris and others.

Jan de Bisschop (1628-1671) was widely influential in art and art publishing. A lawyer by profession, he set up practice in The Hague around 1652 and later founded a drawing academy there. He mingled with an elite circle of intellectuals.

Medium: Engraving and etching combination on verge type hand laid paper.

Condition: mostly good; General age related toning; some light staining as visible on the scan, mostly in margins. Inquire about condition of specific prints in collection.
