Famous bird’s eye view of the various war-events during the 14-month siege of La Rochelle in France in 1627-1628. It was the culmination of the tensions between King Louis XIII and the Catholics against the Huguenots. It ended in a complete victory of the King, after it is said over 80 percent of the population of La Rochelle lost their lives, due to casualties, famine and disease.

This print was first published in c.1630. (Ref. Lieure 655)

Size framed: 147 x 125 cm (134 x 113 cm image).

This view was printed from 6 plates and attached to one large view. Rare in any edition and as usual without the engraved border and legend; attached to wood carrier. Condition: Good; age related toning; some glue spill from sheet attachment; Frame is solid, but with some small damages. Medium: engraving on wove (vellin) paper. Please study scans carefully.
