Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 17.3 x 19.1 cm. The image size is ca. 16.4 x 18.5 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 6.8 x 7.5 inch. The image size is ca. 6.5 x 7.3 inch.
Antique Master Print, untitled. Hermes/Mercury seated on a boulder at the sea shore, putting strings on the first lyre (made from a tortoiseshell) in a circular engraving. Hermes is recognisable by many of his attributes: winged shoes and hat (Petasos and Talaria) and Caduceus. Tondo form engraving. Source unknown, to be determined. This appears to be a proof engraving.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Anonymous’ after own design. We have not been able to determine the engraver of this engraving. Any input appreciated.
Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped close to the platemark, especially lower margin. Edges and corners a little stained. Overall lightly soiled. Remains of attachment to carrier to the rear of the sheet. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
