Very finely etched line etching on a verge type hand laid paper. on paper.

From a finely etched collection of images. Scarse. ‘Leonardo Agostini Senese d’Anni 63’ (Portrait of Leonardo Agostini at the age of 63.) This scarse print / plate originates from: ‘Le gemme antiche figurate di Leonardo Agostini Senese.�, by Leonardo Agostini, published by Giacomo Dragondelli, Rome, 1657. This work was made in conjunction with Gian Pietro Bellori (1615�1696). The first volume was devoted entirely to Cardinal Francesco’s collection, which Agostini had assembled for the papal nephew. The second, to cameos and other discoveries from the auguste ruine della gran Roma, the (august ruins of great Rome). It was later translated into Latin by Jakob Gronovius in Amsterdam, 1685.Artists and Engravers: Authors: Leonardo Agostini (1593�1669) was an Italian antiquary of the 17th century. Gian Pietro Bellori (1613�1696), also known as Giovanni Pietro Bellori or Giovan Pietro Bellori, was an Italian painter and antiquarian but more famously, a prominent biographer of artists of the 17th century, equivalent to Giorgio Vasari in the 16th century. Engraver and artist: Galestruzzi Giovanni Battista (1615-1618/ 1661 post-1669 post).

Condition: Excellent given age. General age related toning and some occasional light staining or thumbing. Small hole in left margin, just outside image. Paper edges a bit frayed. Please study scan carefully.
