Antique print, titled: ‘Rhenen.’ – Extr. rare and attractive panoramic view of Rhenen and the Rhine river valley with the Betuwe region and the town of Lienden in the background, The Netherlands. With the coat of arms of Rhenen at top left and the coat of arms of Dirck van Oosterom (Oostrum), schout of Rhenen. This print is curiously printed on the rear of a sheet of paper which shows a fencing fragment, engraved by Schelte a Bolswert from ‘Academie de l’espee (…)’, by Girard Thibauld, published in leiden, 1628. Published by Herman Specht, who was an art dealer in Amsterdam in the first part of the 17th c. This plate was later cut into parts and re-published in Utrecht in 1698 by his son Caspar Specht. Printed on sheet a paper which can be dated to 1628 based on the rear engraving (see description). Ref: Hollst. Dutch 19.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Steven van Lamsweerde’ after own design. Steven / Stewen van Lamsweerde, also named Simon Anton van Lamsweerde (ca. 1620 – 1686) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver probably from Utrecht.

Condition: Very good, given age. Trimmed to image. Attached to carrier sheet. Image on rear as described. With vertical fold in middle and some small stains near fold. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
