This print shows an inn where farmers are gathered and enjoy themselves. In the middle a dancing couple accompanied by a violin player sitting on a chair. On the right four persons chatting, watching the scene and one is pouring beer in his mug. A lovers couple in the back and a man with a pipe in his hand watching the dancers. A dog is eating from the ground. The print is a reflection of the orginal print by Suyderhoef.

Engraving on hand laid paper. Watermark: Strassburg bend & lily, which can be dated late 17th – early 18th. c. (Churchill)..

Made by ‘Anonymous’ after ‘Jonas Suyderhoef after Adriaen van Ostade’. Jonas Suyderhoef (Dutch; 1614-1686) was a Dutch engraver from Leiden. He worked in Haarlem. He produced highly finished engravings often in collaboration with his tutor Soutman. He specialized mostly in portraits.

Condition: Good, given age. Old fold lines. Two stains. Crease in upper right corner. Tiny wormholes in the right part. Small tear in top right paper edge, backed. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
