Etching / Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 40 x 45,5 cm. (15,7 x 17,9 inch). Image size: 40 x 43,5 cm. (15,7 x 17,1 inch).

This attractive print was published in 1642. Ref: Hollstein Dutch 20.

Made by ‘Pieter Claesz Soutman’ after ‘Peter Paul Rubens’. Pieter Claesz Soutman (1580-1657) was a Dutch painter. As an apprentice he was associated with Rubens’ Antwerp studio, most likely between 1616-1618/19, but also possibly until 1624 when he left Antwerp. He produced prints, especially etchings and left inscriptions on some hunting scenes as an ‘inventor’.

Condition: Good, given age. Folds in the middle. Creases in lower left and right corner, and in upper margin. One stain on th reverse, not effecting the image. Several tears been backed on rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
