BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Part of a series of classical medallion portraits, printed in Rome, 1669.
Reference: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Collection, Accession Number: 1985-52-5111.
Biography engraver: Etienne Picart (1632-1721) was a French engraver known for his fine and detailed prints of classical and religious subjects. He worked in Paris and later in Rome, where he produced numerous portraits, including this medallion of Homer. His works were widely admired for their precision and clarity.
