Etching / engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 18,4 x 26,5 cm. (7,2 x 10,4 inch). Image size: 17,5 x 25,4 cm. (6,9 x 10 inch).
Source unknown, to be determined. Provenance: Collection mark at bottom middle: Hans Schreiner, Strasbourg (Lugt 1374).
Made by ‘Pieter Schenk’ after an anonymous artist. Pieter ( Petrus ) Schenk ( Schenck ) ( 1660-1718/19): Born in Germany, but settled in Amsterdam where he became a pupil of Gerard Valck, the engraver. In 1687 he married Valck’s sister and thereafter the Schenk and Valck families were active over a long period with a wide range of interests as print sellers, publishers of books, maps, topographical and architectural drawings and globe makers.
Condition: Fair, given age. Paper loss bottom edge repaired. Small tear left edge, backed. Some crinkles or minor creases. Remnants of former attachment on verso. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
