Made by E.L. Riepenhausen after William Hogarth. Ernst Ludwig Riepenhausen (1765-1840). The German engraver Riepenhausen was well respected for his engravings after Hogarth, often preferred to those by Hogarth himself. William Hogarth (1697-1764) began his career as an ornament engraver. He later turned to portrait painting an genre subjects. Hogarth became famous with his satirical prints.
