Maria Abrahami Erimitae Neptis. – Mary Peccatrix (sinner) with her grandfather Abraham; Abraham, a monk in a habit, prays before a cross in a small cubicle chapel; Mary sits in another cubicle and converses with a well attired man; at right, her corpse lies in a stable-like structure attended by monks with a village beyond.

Engraving on hand laid (verge type) paper.
Sheet size: 20,9 x 16,8 cm. Image size: 18,7 x 14,5 cm.

Copy in reverse after plate 4 from a series: ‘Solitudo sive vitae Foeminarum Anachoritarum.’ published c. 1580. This plate c. 1610, possibly by Jean le Clerc.

Made by an anonymous engraver after Cornelis Galle I (1570-1650) after Maerten de Vos (1532-1603)..

Condition: Good, given age. Remains of previous attachment at top. Light soiling. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
