Antique drawing, untitled. Two elephants, decked out ceremonially, with three men (Mahout) riding them carrying special hooks (Ankusa) for directing the elephants. One man holds a banner. Originally Persian/Mughal/Indian minatures originate from books/diaries and were often removed to be collected in albums. Later recolouring of these items is common. Miniatures are still made today and regularly old paper with manuscript writing is used today to partly paint over with images painted after the historic original scenes depicting scenes of court life, hunting scenes and royal figures. We feel this item is such item. We have assessed this item as a 20th. c. painting on 16-18th. c. paper with original manuscript writing. Indian minature painting. Artists and Engravers: Anonymous.

Condition: Very good, given age. Print in (simple) matting. Minimally stained with age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
