Antique drawing, untitled. A Mahout or Kornak, holding a Goad Ankusa, on the neck of an elephant with a chain on one leg. Originally Persian/Mughal/Indian minatures originate from books/diaries and were often removed to be collected in albums. Later recolouring of these items is common. Miniatures are still made today and regularly old paper with manuscript writing is used today to partly paint over with images painted after the historic original scenes depicting scenes of court life, hunting scenes and royal figures. We feel this item is such item. We have assessed this item as a 20th. c. painting on 16-18th. c. paper with original manuscript writing. Indian drawing. Artists and Engravers: Anonymous.
