FRANCOISE DE BREZE-DAME D’HONNEUR-PORTRAIT-P.77 ‘Madame de Bouillon de Breze’ [Lord GOWER after CLOUET, 1875]

This scarce original antique print shows a portrait of Françoise de Brézé (1515 – 14 October 1577), a French courtier. She served as Première dame d’honneur to the queen of France, Catherine de’ Medici, from 1547 until 1559. Auto-lithographed from the originals at Castle Howard, Yorkshire.

Made by Lord Ronald Gower after Francois Clouet. Lord Ronald Charles Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (2 August 1845 – 9 March 1916), known as Lord Ronald Gower, was a Scottish Liberal politician, sculptor and writer from the Leveson-Gower family. Francois Clouet (c. 1510-1572), son of Jean Clouet, was a French Renaissance miniaturist and painter, particularly known for his detailed portraits of the French ruling family.

Condition: Good, given age. Light foxing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
