Willem de VI’ – This print shows a portrait of Willem VI standing in full armor with his sword, spear and coat of arms. He stands inside a building and through the window we see him on horseback leading the army in battle. In the edges are many army attributes depicted and a skull. Willem VI was count of Holland Zeeland and Hainaut, Duke of Bavaria-Straubing (1365-1417).

Sheet size: 25,8 x 40,5 cm. (10,2 x 15,9 inch). Image size: 24,4 x 23,2 cm. (9,6 x 9,1 inch).

This attractive print was published by Johann Bosch ca. 1750.

Made by ‘Hendrik Spilman’ after ‘Tako Hajo Helgersma’. Hendrik / Henricus Spilman (1721-1784) was a Dutch painter, designer and etcher from Amsterdam, active in Haarlem. He was a pupil of Abraham de Haen II. His style resembles A. van Everdingen and N. Berghem. He made mostly town and city views. Tako Hajo Helgersma (1702-1795) was a Dutch painter and illustrator. The painting itself can be found in the townhall of Haarlem.

Condition: Good, given age. Trimmed at left. Overall light creasing. Brown spots. Crinkles in lower right corner. Remains of previous soiling in lower margin. Small hole in upper margin. Damp stain at bottom margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
