‘UN DES FILS DE NIOBES. ANTIQ.’

– Plate 240: A dramatic image of one of the sons of Niobe, caught in a moment of anguish or defiance, kneeling with tension in his muscles. His head is thrown back, eyes lifted, as if facing the wrath of Apollo and Artemis. Drapery falls from his waist, emphasizing the classical nude form. Set in a wooded landscape.
