Antique print, titled: ‘Vechtae fundis, villis, praetariis, atque prissis Arcibus triumphantis, Tabula exquisitissima […]’ – This print is the title engraving of the described work focussing on the towns and estates along the Vecht river from Utrecht to Muiden, The Netherlands. This engraving shows a group of mythological figures befoe a commerative column. In the background the city of Utrecht on the left and Muiden castle on the right. From: ‘De Zegepraalende Vecht, vertoonende verscheidene Gesichten van Lustplaatsen, Heeren Huysen en dorpen, beginnen van Uitrecht en met Muyden besluytende.’, published in Amsterdam by Andries de Leth / Wed. Nicolaas Visscher, 1719. (Transl: The glorious Vecht river, showing it’s estates and towns from Urecht to Muiden.)Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Adolf van der Laan’ after ‘Gerard de Lairesse’. Adolf van der Laan (1684-1742) was a Dutch designer and engraver. He is a little described engraver, active in Amsterdam and Paris. Gerard de Lairesse (Liege. 1640-1711) was a Belgian Golden Age engraver, painter and art theorist. Painter and etcher. Born at Liege, 1660 to Berlin, 1665 to Amsterdam. moved to The Hague around 1684.
Condition: Excellent, given age. A few small manganese stains in print, from paper making process. Tiny wormhole at left image edge, barely noticable. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
