‘ON BANDEROLE HELD BY MERCURY: ‘[?] GESCHICHTS CALENDER’. ON STONE BLOCK: ‘[?] VERANDERLICH’. SIGNED LOWER LEFT:’HIRSCHMANN SCUL.”

– Allegorical composition with the winged figure of Time seated on a stone block, holding a scythe, with an hourglass beside him. Above, Mercury (Hermes), god of communication and commerce, flies through the clouds holding a caduceus and a scroll. In the background, a stormy sea with a foundering ship and a burning fortress. Strong baroque symbolism of time, fate, and the transience of earthly things.
