Plate 68: ‘Ambrosius weygert aan den Keyzer Theodosius den ingang in de Kerk’ (Ambrosius refuses Emperor Theodosius entrance to his church). It shows: Ambrosius in the opening of the door of his church, refusing the emperor and his entourage entrance. This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C.
