BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Israel Silvestre (1621-1691) was a prolific French draughtsman and engraver, known for his detailed views of Paris, Italian cities, and classical ruins. He was court designer to Louis XIV and contributed significantly to topographical printmaking in the 17th century.
