Source unknown, to be determined. State: Copy in reverse after the 17th.c. engraving by Girard Audran. Probably a later ed. on vellin. #164 From a series.
Made by ‘N. Tardieu’ after ‘an engraving by Girard Audran after Annibal Carrache’. Engraved or published by Nicolas Henri Tardieu (1674-1749) also called ‘Tardieu the elder’ who was a prominent French engraver, known for his sensitive reproductions of Antoine Watteau’s paintings. He was appointed graveur du roi (King’s Engraver) to King Louis XV of France. Annibale Carracci (1560-1609) was a reknown printmaker, draughtsman, painter and etcher born in Bologna.
Condition: Good, given age. Light soiling, creasing and foxing. Remains of tape on rear. Bottom paper edge a bit irregular. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
