Plate : ‘Le Voyage de la Reine au Pont de Ce.’ (The voyage of the Queen at Pont de Ce). This plate shows an engraving after a painting by Rubens. Allegorical scene with Marie de’ Medici on horseback at centre, wearing plumed helmet, accompanied by Generosity at left with lion and holding pearls, Victory holding a laurel above the queen in top left, while Fame blows a trumpet, the fortified city of Juliers in left background. This original antique print originates from ‘Musee du Louvre. Galerie de Rubens dite du Luxembourg composee des vingt-quatre tableaux de la vie de Marie de Medicis graves sur acier par les premiers artistes …’, with text by S. de Saint-Planchez, published in Paris c. 1873 by Gustave Guerin (first published 1809).
