Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 16 x 14 cm. The image size is ca. 15 x 12.5 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 6.3 x 5.5 inch. The image size is ca. 5.9 x 4.9 inch.
Plate 40: ‘Laurentius te Rome op eenen rooster gebraaden spreekt den Tyran onvertzaagd aan’ (Lawrence of Rome, although being roasted over a fire, continues to adress the tyrant). It shows: Lawrence as the central figure, on a burning platform, surrounded by a throng of people. This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C. Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold. Some general age-related toning and thumbing, please study scan carefully.
