Prince Lee Boo Second Son of Abba Thulle – This scarce original antique print depicts a portrait of Prince Lee Boo (1764 – 1784), the second son of Ibedul (Abba Thule), the ruler of Koror in the Pelew Islands, now called Palau. He was brought to England in 1783 where he soon died from small pox.

Stipple engraving/etching on hand laid (verge) paper.
Sheet size: 11,7 x 13,4 cm. (4,6 x 5,3 inch). Image size: 9,8 x 12,5 cm. (3,9 x 4,9 inch).

Made by H. Brocas after Miss Keate. Reverse ed. as compared to other similar portraits we found. Henry Brocas (1762 – 1837), Irish painter and engraver. Georgiana Jane Henderson or Georgiana Keate (c.1771-1850) was an English painter, daughter of landscape painter George Keate (1727-1797). She sat for two noted portraits and was the mother of other noted John Henderson (1797-1878).

Source: From an unidentified edition of an ‘Account of the Pelew Islands, from the Journals of Captain Henry Wilson and some of his officers, shipwrecked there in the Antelope in August 1783, 1788.’

Condition: Very good, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
