Joost Damhouder – This original antique print depicts a portrait of Joos de Damhouder (1507 – 1581), also referred to as Joost, Jost, Josse or Jodocus (de) Damhouder, a jurist from Bruges, in the County of Flanders (then part of the Seventeen Provinces). His writings had a lasting influence on European criminal law.

Made by Reinier Vinkeles after J. Buys. Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816), was a painter and engraver from Amsterdam, who was the later teacher of several talented artists. He studied for some ten years with Jan Punt and joined the Amsterdam Stadstekenacademie. Vinkeles had a substantial output in prints. Jacobus Buys (1724-1801) was a pupil of Cornelis Troost and Cornelis Pronk. He supplied many designs for book illustrations.

Condition: Very good, given age. Attached to carrier sheet. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
