Biography engraver: Joseph Lemercier (1803-1887) was the director of the celebrated Paris lithography firm of Lemercier & Cie. He was one of the most important Parisian printers and lithographers of the nineteenth century. He worked for the greatest publishers and artists of his time. He played an important role in the spread and generalization of the photolithography process, which made it possible to transfer a photographic image onto a lithographic stone and thus make printing ink prints of this image.
Alexandre Chey?re (1787-1859) was a French lithographer active in the early 19th century. Born in Laversine, Aisne, around 1787, Chey?re began his professional activity on August 17, 1821, and concluded it on July 5, 1828.
Chey?re was succeeded by Lemercier, whose company became one of the most prominent French lithographic firms of the 19th century. Notable figures in the lithographic field, such as Lasteyrie, Prieur, Villain, and Marlet, were listed as his sponsors, which implies a well-connected presence in the artistic circles of his time.
Biography artist: Pierre Louis Henri Grevedon (1776-1860) was a French painter, lithographer and illustrator.
