Antique print, titled: ‘Panharing.’ – (‘Fresh Herring’). Two gibbed herrings. Source unknown, to be determined. Signed in pencil below the image, titled and dated in pen on the rear. Monotyping is a type of printmaking in which an image is drawn in ink (or paint) onto a plate. While the ink is still wet, an impression of this is made on paper. Thus, monotype prints are always unique printings, as most of the ink is transferred in the first printing.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Frans Mandos’ after own design. Franciscus Hubertus Wilhelmus (‘Frans’) Mandos Tzn (Tilburg 1910 – Hilvarenbeek 1977) was a Dutch artist. He was a glass maker, graphic artist, illustrator and painter. He was a student of Jan van Delft, Henri Sicking and Albert Verschuuren. In turn, he taught Wim van Boxtel.
Condition: Very good, given age. Remains of attachment to carrier to the four corners. Sheet a little wrinkled (as is usual with this type of paper). Paper loss in the top left corner of the sheet (well outside the image). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
