This attractive print was published in Augsburg in1768. This is an optical print, also called ?vue optique? or ?vue d?optique?, which were made to be viewed through a Zograscope, or other devices of convex lens and mirrors, all of which produced an optical illusion of depth.
Made by ‘Frederic Leizelt’ after ‘Jan de Beijer ‘. Frederic Leizelt, active (1750?1800), was a German artist and copperplate engraver working from Augsburg. Jan de Beijer (1703 – 1780), also given as Jan de Beyer, was a Dutch draughtsman and painter known for this drawings of towns and buildings in the present-day countries of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. In total, he produced some 1500 drawings, over 600 of which were reproduced as engravings by other artists.
Condition: Good, given age. Light soiling. Trimmed. Attached to cardboard. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
