Subject: Antique print, titled: ‘Nieuwe Kaart van de Noord Pool’ – (‘New Map of the North Pole’). Antique circular engraved map with the North Pole as its focal point. This shows the known world at the time, including Canada, Russia and Europe as well as the top of California (depicted as an island).
Condition: Very good, given age. Original folds, as issued. A small nick in the left edge of one of the folds. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
Medium: Engraving on hand laid paper.

Description: From the 7th volume of “Hedendaagsche Historie of Tegenwoordige Staat van Alle Volkeren” (Tirion, 1735). This volume deals with Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the North Pole and Greenland.
Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Jacob Keyser’ after own design. Jacob Keizer is a Dutch engraver and cartographer active in the first half of the 18th century. Little is known of his life; according to Waller (p. 173) he was active in Russia and Amsterdam, and later Almelo.
