“Martinus Lutherius Beatus, venter qui te portavit (front above) Ceasaris ante predes (?) (reverse above), “Heresibus Sidignus erut Lutherus (?)(front below) Ego sum via et veritas (?) (revese below)” – This print shows two special medals in front and reverse with the portrait of Martin Luther and texts referring to 1521, the date of the assembly of Worms where Martin Luther was banned by the pope. On the medal above Martin Luthers head is surrounded by the words: “Blessed in the womb that bore thee”. On the reverse: Where the neighboring Vangiones (i.e. Worms) approach the Rhine-Bank, he stood before Ceasar and before mighty prinses”. On the reverse of the lower medal we see Jesus near the cross raising his arms in a posure which suggests “Why?”.
