Mars – This print shows the God of War, Mars, sitting on his chariot pulled along by two horses. While below people are being killed by soldiers. Ships are fighting each other, cities in flames. Zodiac signs of Capricorn and Scorpio in ovals in top corners. On the reverse we see an old drawing of a woman and a funny face.

Made by ‘Jan Sadeler I’ after ‘Maarten de Vos’. Jan Sadeler I, Engraver (Flemish, 1550-1600). Maarten de Vos (Flemish, 1532-1603).

Condition: Fair, given age. Trimmed to image. Old restorations in margin, some pieces of paper missing. Brown spot on chariot. Smudges. Drawing on reverse in red. Explanatory text below is missing. No margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
