Leopoldus I – This scarce original antique print depicts a portrait of Leopold I (1290 – 1326) from the House of Habsburg, Duke of Austria and Styria – as co-ruler with his elder brother Frederick the Fair – from 1308 until his death. Born at Vienna, he was the third son of King Albert I of Germany and Elisabeth of Gorizia-Tyrol, a scion of the Meinhardiner dynasty. Latin text on verso.

Sheet size: 16,7 x 28,6 cm. (6,6 x 11,3 inch). Image size: 14 x 23,5 cm. (5,5 x 9,3 inch).

From: ‘Tirolensium principum comitum Contrafacturen’ by Wolfgang Kilian, published in Augsburg 1623.

Made by Wolfgang Kilian after an anonymous artist. Wolfgang Kilian (1581–1662) was a German engraver and member of the Kilian family of engravers in Augsburg. He was the son of Bartholomaus Kilian the elder and Maria Pfeiffelmann. After his father’s death in 1583 his mother remarried Dominicus Custos and he and his brother Lucas became his pupils. Condition: Very good, given age. Tiny tear left edge, not affecting image. A few minor crinkles. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
